Goldfields Aboriginal Language Awards 2017

The second Goldfields Aboriginal Languages Awards was held in July 2017. The winners of the awards are below. See further down for information for the 2018 Language Awards and nominate people who you feel should be recognised. Nominations open April 2018.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees! Thank you to everyone who nominated, helped out on the day and attended the lovely awards ceremony.

2017 Award winners

1. Hall of Fame: Long term commitment by an individual towards the use and preservation of Aboriginal languages.

3. Outstanding business promoting use of Aboriginal languages.

4. Outstanding individual promoting use of Aboriginal languages.

5. Outstanding under 21 year old using or promoting Aboriginal languages.

6. Outstanding individual contribution towards Aboriginal language use and preservation.

2017 Winner: Valma Schultz (Ngadju)

7. Outstanding individual, organisation or business promoting interpretation and translating of Aboriginal languages.

Goldfields Aboriginal Language Awards 2018

Nominations for people, organisations and events that you believe should be recognised for their support and promotion of Aboriginal languages, is now open. Download the nomination form (coming in 2018).

Nominations need to be made by June 2018 on the nomination form. Nominate as many people and organisations as you feel deserve recognition. One nomination per form.

The Awards ceremony will be held on a date to be announced in 2018 and all nominees will be invited to attend.

Members of the public are invited to nominate Goldfields individuals, businesses, institutions, government agencies or businesses they believe should be recognised for their contribution towards the use of or preservation of Aboriginal languages, or for their efforts in developing language learning activities or provision of interpreting and translation services for Aboriginal people.

Nominees must have worked with Goldfields languages.

The award categories are:

1. Hall of Fame: Long term commitment by an individual towards the use and preservation of Aboriginal languages.

2. Outstanding educational body promoting Aboriginal language learning.

3. Outstanding business promoting use of Aboriginal languages.

4. Outstanding individual promoting use of Aboriginal languages.

5. Outstanding under 21 year old using or promoting Aboriginal languages.

6. Outstanding individual contribution towards Aboriginal language use and preservation.

7. Outstanding individual, organisation or business promoting interpretation and translating of Aboriginal languages.

8. Outstanding government department or agency promoting use of Aboriginal languages.

Nominees received a letter of congratulation and Award winners were announced at a morning tea and received a framed certificate.
